Tita Who?

Happy Friday!!  FINALLY it is warming up here in the Los Angeles... who's going to the beach pool parties this weekend?  There are two amazing parties at the Standard Downtown (rooftop pool) Saturday and Sunday afternoon.. more info to follow on those...

Last night I got to see an amazing singer Tita LimaTitalima_2 Although I couldn't understand anythang she was singing about, this Brazilian funk/soul artist won me over, she was all smiles, beautiful voice and had an amazingly funky backing band. She closed out the Roxy on Sunset last night, Due to the La VS War, most of her fans were downtown rallying, with a small intimate crowd, she won over the room.

She is playing a show tonight in Fullerton and also Santa Monica this weekend! :-)

Off to Runyon!

random blab-blabber

Have you ever got a CD, and every song is like the soundtrack to your life, right at that moment?  Currently thats how I feel about the new album MAYA by  1969 (featuring Butch Walker... go to the bands myspace for ordering instructions).  Much different than the typical Butch record.. very 'indie-esque' whatever that means, but I would say its sound is very similar to the strokes and not so similar to Marvelous 3.  Its very exciting to see my favorite artist do something so different, the album quality is not amazing, and the songs are compiled from the last year or two, and were thrown together to make this special record, which will also be out on VINYL! How exciting ay?

Anywho.. the gals of LaLafabulous.com, had a.. well.. quite fabulous weekend.  Friday night was re-coop night, Saturday night we stopped by 86-Hollywood, which was a tad meat-market-ey, but a beautiful lil lounge, with a cool jazz band (which seems to be the in thang, however Prince didn't show, we were disappointed) and a hot cabaret dancer.  We stayed until about 1230 or so, we were getting attacked left and right by cheesy TV producers and lil men from Alaska.  We left on a positive note, and somehow Audrey befriended Mr. Vincent Vaughn during our short stay at the lovely lil' lounge.  We than met some friends at Kung Pao Kitty.. too much whiskey.  To round up our weekend it was fabulous as usual.  I will be back shortly with some information, that actually may be useful to you...

Out of Africa

My last few fashion posts were a wee bit on the expensive side, so today I decided to check out the goods at Delias. I was pleasantly surprised to find a number of pieces that hinted at Africa and safari cool. Check back next week for some more adorable finds from your little sister's favorite store...happy shopping, Audrey

These sandals are just really fucking awesome. I've been wanting a pair of gladiator sandals for summer, but refuse to spend $150 on any trend that will be embarrassing come next season. This pair is only $29, hence the really fucking awesome part. click here to buy

Purple Rain?

Last night was an amazing night out for the gals of lalafabulous.com

First to the 40th Anniversary Hot Wheels art show at 1988 Gallery.. free booze and amazing artwork inspired by some of our favorite early 90's toys and cartoons.  If it wasn't for charity i would have stolen  the she-ra painting..

Then to a great lil mexican joint called 'las papas' on Melrose and La Brea, not THE best service, but we got beer and guacomole.. so no harm done.

Prince_2 We finished off the night at  one of our FAV spots the Green Door with a good looking crowd and even better jazz.   Upon entry we heard  whispers of Prince. YES PRINCE. Like purple rain prince, not only was  Prince there, he did an impromptu performance whitnessed by Me, Audrey and about 100-150 other people.

Sorry for gramatical errors, there was also a lot of champagne involved, my head hurts.

If you are among the very young at heart

Wednesday April 2nd Fox Searchlight is doing a free screening of the movie Young at Heart at the Landmark theatre in West La.  From what I gather Young at Heart is a documentary about a chorus of senior citizens ages 72-88 performing music like the Bee Gees Stayin Alive and The Ramones I Wanna Be Sedated. I have a soft spot in my heart for the elderly folk so you'll surely see me there. Just go to the Fox Searchlight website to rsvp. xo Audrey

I love this ring for a number of reasons: its unique shape, the way  it looks like all those nifty little pyrite and mineral rocks i used to collect as a kid, the fact that its a bad ass knuckle ring that looks capable of serious damage...its super pricey but im still obsessed click here to buy

just another sunny day.. in cali-for-ni-a

Good Morning everyone!  I unfortunately got awoken by Audrey and the Cable man at about 830 (on my day off!)... so I decided to try and make use of my early start to the day.  Its a perfect day out.. so I think i'ma go climb my local mountain (runyon canyon)  Do you do Runyon?  It just happens to be a new favorite place of mine.. for one its an amazing workout.. and somehow in the middle of the city of Los Angeles.. you feel like you are in some sort of tropical jungle.. a jungle with lots and lots of cute doggies running around! About halfway up.. you get and amazing view.. and if you make it to the top.. you will get an even more amazing view of the 'other' side of the hill...  After Runyon and a quick shower.. i'm off to the Standard pool for a few mid-day poolside cocktails.. than I have a photoshoot tonight! busy busy... :-)

Runyon_canyon_3

As it is the official start to my weekend.. I thought I'd throw this lil tidbit of info to you.. the scene-sational DIM MAK is throwing a yard sale party on Hollywood this Sunday... Free beer and bbq and the usual overwhelming amount of neon colors mixed in with suspenders and flannel.

And if your at the office.. I came across this interesting article on how the different states rank on health, obesity, murder rates.. etc.. Read it HERE !!

life is in the details...

I'm pretty sure I've said that before, but its the best way to describe this post on some neat little details from Uncommon Goods. While I wouldn't exactly consider it the best place to get a bargain, I still love this site for those extra touches that make you feel all the more stylish...xo Audrey...

My bedroom is in a constant state of re-decoration. Right now I'm convinced that the perfect hand stitched throw pillow will complete my current estate sale look. Sadly hand stitched throw pillows are ridiculously expensive, who knew? I finally found one I'm willing to pay over $100 for, its the New England Great Getaways Region Pillow. They make them for everywhere from New York to Italy, but the New England one is a a touch of home that justifies the price tag for me...
Newengland
$38 is a wee bit pricey for a night light, well i guess 24 is a wee bit old to be using a night light as well, but either way this one is gorgeous! Its a  real sugar maple leaf cast in 24 k antique gold and made right here in good ole' california. click here
Nightleaf
Right now my favorite accessories are pendant necklaces. This Fortune Bird one is made in LA and meant to represent luck and abundance. I just really like the flea market look of it.

Finally, I know its not the most polite subject to discuss, but I'm pretty sure its a law of nature that whenever I search for anything in my handbag I am destined to pull out a tampon. Lovely. Which is why I think these tampon cases is kinda nifty.
Tampon_2

kinda awesome

This is probably one of the few times you will ever see me make mention of Playstation. With little to no hand eye coordination and a deep seeded hatred for sports videogames are the bane of my existence. However that doesn't make L.A. Riot's remix of Weezer's Automatic headlining the Gran Tourismo 5 soundtrack any less awesome. click here to check it out.

Art school

I like Art, I'm even close to loving it. I can't draw for shit and my knowledge of current artists barely extends beyond Shepard Fairey, but I'm working on it. Sadly my bank account does not match my aspirations for collecting art, that's where Reform School comes in with wearable, livable, usuable, and sometimes just nifty to look at art...I've included my to buy list below...xo Audrey

I'm not the most organized person in the world but this Hidden Habit Calendar is so adorable I would find any excuse to use it..an added bonus, its only $16 and 100% recycled and printed with vegetable based inks!
Hiddenhabitat

At first look I thought The Wheedling by Binth was a depiction of Alice in Wonderland wandering into the woods with an axe, and even thought its not, I still love it. It might just become my first "art" purchase. I don't consider $85 too much to pay for a legitimate limited edition, signed and numbered piece of art. Fuck I paid $200 to have a giant motley crue poster framed that I know cringe every time I look at.
Bnthwheedling_1

Finally there's this For Like Ever Recycled Cotton Tote, I've been looking for just the right canvas tote. Somehow I just can't justify spending $80 on something I'll be using to lug groceries home and take to the beach. I think this screen printed, recylced, AND recyclable tote is just the right one at $32.

Stillwater Runs Deep?

I like The Wildbirds. Alot. They feature raspy vocals and tracks that range from the tender Suzanna to Shake Shake and 421 made for heavy drinking and trouble. And they live in a bus that runs on fryer grease with a girl named Emily. Over all pretty rad.

Oh and is it just me or do they slightly resemble  Stillwater from Almost Famous

Remember me....?

Hello hello everyone! Jordan here!  Sorry its been so long!  Audrey and I have been busy little ladies and have neglected our precious blog.  Its actually bizarre how many people have been coming up to us while we're out asking about where we went.. why we stopped writing?  Well we have no real excuse but just losing the time, and having lots going on!  As for me I've started two new jobs and also have somehow along the way fallen in love with a very very special man.  Audrey has been the amazing fashionista she is, and putting together a vintage clothing shop!

ANYhow.. we are back and going to try and fill your brains with as much info as we can!  So please keep sending us your ideas, cool websites, info on great music, art shows, live music, cool shops.. you know the drill..

Can't wait to get back in touch with everyone and get all up and running!

Ooh.. and add us on the 'space (audrey hates when i call it that hehe)...

also our direct email is lalafabulous@gmail.com which i check daily!

Tuesday Night, Done Right

In the time since I've left you, I've acquired a new favorite spot on Tuesday nights. The Green Door. Tuesday night at the GreenDoor is a low maitenance, high style jazz night with some of the best jazz musicians in the world fronted by the insanely talented Deron Johnson. A much needed break from dirty rock bars, hipster floor stomping parties, and douchebag mating rituals of the LA night scene, Tuesday at Green Door just feels a bit more sophisticated than the other options. Enjoy xo Audrey

What is....

A Hipster's Playground...American Apparel? La Cita on a Thursday night? Brite Spot diner? Nope...well yes, but I'm talking about a different kind of Hipster's Playground. This one is a brilliantly edited Ebay store selling vintage clothing. Most pieces are from the 80S with a few choice 50S, 60S and 70S items. I've included some of my favorite items below...happy bidding xo Audrey.

Lolita style baby doll dress in a pristine white...absolutely adorable, I would pair it with black tights and Maryjane's...click here to bid
Lolita_dress

The feminine silhouette of this skirt makes a great contrast with the plaid print and stands out against the standard issue plaid shirt click here to bid
Lumberjack_skirt

As you already know sequins are my weakness. I usually despise anything that would fall into the bedazzler category, but I think there's nothing sexier than a sequin mini dress, except for maybe a sequin mini dress with a ridiculously low U back...click here to bid
Sequins

Hey there

Hello stranger! Its been about 5 months since our last post, but alas we are back. Without further ado   I'll jump into the purpose of this blog, a magical little band from the UK by the name of Fanfarlo. Jordan and I were lucky enough to discover them at the Fader party during SXSW. In a week of endless noise and free alcohol this band stood out enough to make me remember such a silly name when I was so drunk I could barely remember my own. Using every instrument from the horn to the mandolin they created a peppy sound juxtaposed with Amos' haunting vocals, their live performance was perhaps one of the most beautiful experiences I've had in a long time. Well at least one of the most beautiful experiences I've ever had surrounded by mustachioed hipsters in 90 degree weather.

In other news Lemmy tore himself away from that trivia machine in the back of Rainbow to play a set with Motorhead...it was very good times...well i'm all tuckered out...xo audrey
Lemmy01_story

Quick Correction: Oops! Though Amos did take the reigns for some songs at the Fader Fort, it is Simon who is the main vocalist and according to Amos, "more haunting than Amos's but louder, better in range and less Casper the Friendly Ghost. "

Halloweenie

With less than a week to go until halloween its seem like the perfect time to post all the fetes in celebration of old hallows eve...

For a mere $60 you can get down at the Roosevelt's haunted hotel party this Saturday night with Mixmaster Mike of the Beastie Boys...I'm thinking of going as a douchebag...

Sunday,The Do Over will be getting into the Halloween spirit with The Boo Over a no-cover, costume mandatory good time at 1611 N. El Centro in Hollywood

Also going on Sunday is what can only be described as pure genius...the Thrillist sponsored Co-ed Halloween Dodgeball Tournament...

Dodgeballflier

The movies are coming back to Hollywood Forever Cemetary for a special Halloween screening of The Shining...gates are at 5:30pm and the movie starts at 7:00 pm...tickets are $10, that's less than most movie theatres and a small price to pay to see the sexiest man ever on the big screen in the middle of a cemetary on Halloween..

this weeks guilty pleasures..

Although I have had the Beatles in heavy rotation lately.. every song reminds me of being a little girl and my dad singing 'i wanna hold your hand' and 'help' constantly.. I do love my pop-rock tunes.  I got a chance to check out the The Spill Canvas last week, and love love love them!  I want to pinch the singers chubby cheeks.  I suggest you check them out like now-ish.  Here is their vid for 'staplegunned' wuv wuv wuv.

Also while I was in Portland, I got a chance to check out Jonezetta along with Family Force 5 who were easily the most ridiculous band I've ever seen.. but also one of the most interesting.  They were some sort of bizarre mix of rock/rap/glam metal.  For sure an entertaining live show.  If you wanna hear what all the hype is about they are playing the knitting factory on hollywood tomorrow night.  Check them out!
